Increasing Accessible Childcare
We need to continue to address the lack of affordable, safe, and high quality childcare in Montana. Much of the state is considered a childcare desert where there are 3 or more children for every available childcare spot. For his family, Ben called 11 childcare facilities before finding a provider to care for his young daughter.
When families can find a quality childcare provider, the services can cost thousands of dollars per month for 2 or more children. For some families, childcare costs require one parent to stay home with the children because the costs can be nearly as much as a parent earns.
Ben will prioritize making childcare affordable for more families by expanding childcare scholarships to middle class families and explore new incentives for childcare businesses to expand the supply of providers across the state.
